Handover to Chief of Defence

After a two-year long investigation our research findings are presented to the Netherlands Chief of Defence Tom Middendorp. The 300-page report ‘Uruzgan’s Legacy: An Exploration of the Dutch Reconstruction Results’ focuses on the reconstruction projects undertaken by Task Force Uruzgan in the period 2006-2010. The document describes in great detail the impact of the reconstruction efforts in the remote Afghan
province.

The challenging fieldwork provides valuable insight into the legacy of an important Dutch mission. Additionally, the research puts forward concrete and tangible recommendations on how to improve future missions, in particular by making spatial expertise an integral part of such endeavours. The findings were embraced by both by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defence. We greatly look forward announcing the details of the next phase collaboration soon.
